MEMORIES OF THE QUARRYMEN'S ART
MARSALA QUARRIES PARK SICILY · Trapani
The proposed experience takes place in an unusual location: extraction quarries. Places below ground level, hidden from the view of those who rush past. They are cities created by the quarrymen during the extraction phase. Places “shorn” of their identity to create houses and monuments. Places always despised because they were emptied and destined to become landfills. These quarries, covering approximately 7 hectares, have instead been redeveloped by two people: Leonardo and Anna Maria, who, with a work lasting 16 years, have restored their rightful value. They are places steeped in memories and represent the culture, society, and economy of the people of Marsala. The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes and is guided by the owners, who have their farm and their home (they live inside a quarry). The tour will include both open-air quarries and cave quarries. The route is a walk, but wheelchairs are not permitted due to the slopes. Refreshments will be served halfway through the tour. Tickets are €25 per person. Children aged 6 to 14 pay half price. Reservations must be made at least one hour in advance by calling +39 3334496861. Wear comfortable shoes, and a hat is required in summer.
